Dear Representative Doolittle:
If you want to be a hero in terms of business, why not sup****t
something other than the current school model we use. Even the kids in
Granite Bay aren't doing anywhere near what they could be doing on an
international scale if only we would stop reinforcing the one size fits
all accredited public schools of the Nation.
I am still waiting for the government to understand that the
accreditation process in America is reinforcing a one size fits all
top-down educational system that prevents schools like Linda Christas
from truly impacting our level of competitiveness in subjects like math
and science.
Bill Gates and others say they are concerned about the quality of
American education, but then they deny funding to schools like Linda
Christas, schools that could really make a difference in our business
and technological competitiveness. Instead, we spend tens of millions
of dollars again on the top-down model. All these folks are smart. But,
foundations and the U.S. Government are not putting money where it is
needed. (You seem very smart to me, Representative Doolittle (you
receive my vote and sup****t every election). Why not help business help
America. Pat Boone, Efrem Zimbalist Jr, Sue Grafton and a group of
other prominent people (authors, naval commanders and pioneer surgeons
are attempting to sup****t Linda Christas, but the government.....not a
penny (The VA..not a penny, DOE....not a penny..State of California not
a penny.............foundations.....(Gates and other foundations, not a
penny.) If we really are serious about changing the relative level of
student competitiveness in America, we need to sup****t, well,
change..........(Already Microsoft has two of its three R&D facilities
in other countries.)
As long as we continue to pour all foundation and tax money into the
same school model, how do we expect a different result?
No private tutor, even the best, in America can be accredited. We spend
billions on "improvement projects" but deny any public funds to schools
like Linda Christas who offer the AP Calculus programs in a way that
really turns kids on to higher mathematics.
I don't get it.
If we truly want to continue to command the world in terms of math and
science, we need to at least give schools like Linda Christas a running
start.
They still use credentialed instructors. It's just that each course is
designed for the individual.
I know we see that claim everywhere, but look more closely. If the
course claims to be designed for the individual and yet uses textbooks
and workbooks, that's telling that nothing could be further from the
truth.
Linda Christas uses teachers who design each course separately using
their own experience in terms of what will work with that particular
student.
Seems logical to me.
And, having taken a course from Linda Christas, and seeing how they
work, and how they are not funded in any way by officialdom, I can't
help but wonder why President Bush isn't told by his new mathematics
commission about Linda Christas.
Perhaps, since education is such a hot item, you could use sup****ting
Linda Christas as a state-wide effort, or national effort. I think you
would garner half the votes for Senator just by advocating school
reform, and, teachers would actually sup****t this because Linda
Christas only uses state credentialed teachers. But, instead of making
them subject to the whims of school boards with no training, they the
teachers working with students design each program for each student in
a way so that the kids lead with their strengths. The enthusiasm that
the students demonstrated while I was at Linda Christas was truly
amazing. And, the programs are offered online.
I know everybody claims to tailor courses for individuals, but as you
can see by just asking, every school that claims that, except Linda
Christas, uses canned syllabi and textbooks first and foremost. Helping
schools like Linda Christas (in our state) will help everyone,
including Representative (soon to be Senator) Doolittle.
