L.A. Junior Chamber of Commerce and Cal National Bank Sponsor
Mentor****p Fair
Los Angeles, California – On Friday, June 25, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm
at the Figueroa Courtyard in Downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles
Junior Chamber of Commerce and California National Bank will gather
Southern California's leading mentoring organizations for a Mentor****p
Fair. Cal National Bank is inviting the banking community and downtown
businesses to participate in the event to increase awareness of the
need for volunteer mentors and encourage individuals to become
mentors. The fair will provide members of the business community an
op****tunity to meet with representatives from various mentor****p
organizations.
While mentoring programs have been proven an effective tool in
improving the scholastic success and general well being of youth –
particularly at-risk youth, many potential mentors are not quite sure
how to become involved in the many organizations that make a real
difference in the lives of Southern California's youth. The
Mentor****p Fair is intended to create a link between organizations
that need mentors and Southern California residents who are eager to
improve the lives of our youth.
The Mentor****p Fair will be preceded at 10:30 am in the Figueroa
Courtyard Conference Center, by an award ceremony where several
volunteers will receive the prestigious President's Volunteer Service
Award. The keynote speaker, Mr. John Liechty, Associate
Superintendent of Schools for the Los Angeles Unified School District,
will address the positive effects mentor****p programs have on our
youth and the future of our nation. Among those invited to attend the
ceremony are local political and business leaders as well as community
development organizations.
Greg Mitchell, President of California National Bank noted "Mentor****p
provides people at all levels of society with the op****tunity to make
a profound difference in the lives of others. The selfless act of
freely giving time and talent to others in need allows mentors to
develop a deep sense of purpose and meaning. Bottom Line: Mentor****p
is a major winner for the student and mentor."
