Rod Paige, Education Secretary, Presentation at Ceaser Chavez H.S., 5/16

by bartning@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Vincent Henry Bartning) Aug 8, 2003 at 01:52 PM

Hello all:

I watched a show on Comcast regarding Rod Paige, Bush's Education
Secretary. I've got a keen interest in his conduct as I've been
complaining at the federal level about school since 1992, after a
female-faculty member kicked me out of her class, etc. It was during
the Thomas hearings... My youngest full brother now has an MBA from
Columbia...

Ironically, both Clarence Thomas and Rod Paige are black. I saw a lot
of minorities at the Wa****ngton, D.C.-area school, and three Bartnings
(first cousins) went to D.C.-area schools in the last 10 years, two
graduating from Georgetown Prep, the other from Georgetown itself.
All are younger.

Anyway, I guess I want to be an American, and Secretary Paige already
holds office. Therefore, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt
and be on his side. However, I was not impressed and felt attacked by
his speech, and he focussed mainly on minorities.

Although my first cousins probably went to college as minorities (they
all have Mexican-American mothers, and their father was over half
Mexican like mine), I have attended as a white person, like my younger
brother. My dad also attended as both a Mexican-American and as
white. However, my complaints are based more on *** right now than
race, but race comes into play.

I have received two Associate degrees, the last from De Anza College
in 1996 in Spanish with honors, since the 1992 complaint and 1991
incident causing it. I also began San Jose State as a senior in 1990,
transferring from UMASS/Boston, a school my younger sister obtained
her B.A. at several years ago with high honors. Hopefully, I will
manage the problem correctly, and at the moment I have a related
federal suit and a complaint about a World War II class I completed in
the spring of 2002. The latter's at the local level, with SJSU's
Student Fairness Committee...

Hopefully, sharing ideas here will help. I am not happy with things.
It's also made me want to become a lawyer, something my ancestors and
relatives have done. We had a Bartning who became a famous lawyer at
Cambridge back in the 1890s, and I have two first cousins who are
lawyers too. Rod Paige does make it sound like it's Christians and
lions nowadays, and God help me! (LOL!) Ideas?

Thanks,

Vincent H. Bartning
SJSU
