Oh, my. The Compton Community College is losing its accreditation, and
may close.

The reason this bothers me so much is that I was a student there back in
the '60s before I was drafted. I had my first electronics technology
class there. And also the following.
Last year at the end of June our chancellor with the backing of our
board of trustees inexplicably fired Rita Cepeda, the president of SAC
(sac.edu). The faculty and staff were _not_ pleased, to put it mildly.
Later that year, Dr. Cepeda was given the job of interim chancellor of
Compton CC by the state, which had taken over the college. Looks like
she has her hands full.
I just saw her in a sound bite on the local news, which gave some of the
story. One option could be to let the college become part of another
nearby district, another option would be to close it down. If so it
would be a first. The article above said it was the first college in
Calif to lose its accreditation. It is not something to be taken
lightly, and these problems have been going on for a period of time; the
college has had financial and corruption problems for some time. More
