My best friend is a graduate of the University of Portland. I think she
did
learn a thing or two from UP. I don't know how they teach at UP but I do
know that UP administrators care more about keeping the students "in line"
than supporting their quests for critical and independent thinking. For
example, the University suppressed and 'strongly discouraged' any protest
against the war in Iraq or any disagreement with the Bush administration.
After all, it is a Bush's strong hold in the middle of a "liberal" city in
a "liberal" state of Oregon. My friend also was under the impression that
the University cares more about money than the thing called "education".
Oh well, that's the way it is in a capitalistic country. Isn't it?
