Cherokee Trail of Lies
Wa****ngton liberals have always used the ''Cherokee Trail of Tears'' to
bash White Southerners, ****traying Whites as brutal Jack booted thugs,
out to steal Indian land and exterminate the Indian population.
----------------------------------------------
Historical revisionist's account never made sense to this writer,
leading to many questions, what really happened? Who is responsible for
brutalizing the Cherokees and killing 4,000 Cherokees in their forced
march to Indian territory?
``````````````````````````````````````````````
Between 1812 and 1820 Cherokees petitioned the Spanish Government for
permission to settle in East texas. Spain eager to keep the South from
expanding into Texas granted the Cherokees permission, and used the
Cherokees as a buffer to keep White Southerners out.
----------------------------------------------
''The Law of April 6, 1830,qv prohibited further American immigration to
Texas. At the same time, Mexican authorities resurrected their policy of
using the Cherokees as a buffer against immigrant Americans. By 1830 the
Cherokee population of Texas was approaching 400. The tribe was
congregated in at least three but possibly as many as seven towns north
of Nacogdoches along the Sabine River and its tributaries, including a
stream now known as Cherokee Creek. In order to secure Cherokee aid,
Mexican officials proposed giving the Cherokees the long-sought title to
their land, but the Indians lacked the money and legal expertise to
complete the complicated procedure. However, lingering hopes of securing
legal rights to their land kept the Cherokees loyal to the Mexican
government.
Without spin history is boring an no one will read it, But shouldn't the
spin unite Americans and not be used to keep them divided?
``````````````````````````````````````````````
Every Capitalist and politician in the North knew of Spain and Mexico's
success, in keeping Southerners out of Texas by creating a buffer zone
using Cherokees.
settlements and the Cherokees loyalty to Mexico.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
This was the reason for ''the trail of tears'' The removal of Indians
from all of the South , and establi****ng Indian territory, was a carbon
copy of Mexico and Spains success with stooping Southern expansion.
----------------------------------------------
Wa****ngton never gave up on the idea of segregating the indians as a
'buffer'' to prevent the South from expanding westward, Gaining economic
strength and controlling Wa****ngton.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
After the Civil war, Texans were given a ''Carpet bag'' Government.
Texans were powerless and pennyless a homestead appeard to the only way
to regain prosperity.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
Cherokees sought compensation from Texas for lands lost in 1839. In the
mid-1850s the tribe had sent William P. Adair to Wa****ngton, D.C., to
petition Congress for permission to sue the state of Texas for the
return of 1.5 million acres in East Texas. The Gov in Texas offered the
Cherokees fourteen million acres in the Panhandle as compensation, but
the tribe declined the offer.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
Ending the practice of free land, to all Americans had to end otherwise
the South would gain control of Wa****ngton, A new buffer line in the
panhandle of Texas, would reinforce Wa****ngton's desire to end
Homesteading and still keep homestead laws on the books.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
Most land in the west was sold to European buyers, some was declared
open range, and some was made into Indian reservations, A Cherokee
nation of 14 million acres. in the panhandle would have effectively
checked Southern expansion into Colorado and Oklahoma.
----------------------------------------------
if the Tribe had accepted Wa****ngton's offer in the 1850s, Oklahoma
would not have the long panhandle stretching Oklahoma from the Rockies
mountains to the Arkansas and Louisiana border.
`````````````````````````````````````````````` The panhandle was
added to keep White Southerners from establi****ng homesteads in
Colorado. and beyond.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
=A0=A0For the next hundred years, the Cherokees periodically renewed
their claims against the state of Texas, but without success. The most
recent case, filed in 1963 by Earl Boyd Pearce, chief counsel for the
Cherokees, petitioned the state of Texas for redress of the 1839
grievances. In an ingenious plan, Pearce asked for compensation in the
form of free education for a thousand Cherokees in state-sup****ted Texas
universities. In an opinion handed down in March 1964, Texas attorney
general Waggoner Carr denied the validity of the Cherokee claim on the
grounds that the state of Texas is not liable for claims against the
Republic of Texas.
Cherokee history is confussed because there were different goals for the
Cherokees livin in the US and those living in Mexico.
The Idea for Texas independance from Mexico, origionated with the
Cherokees living in the US, From Sams Houston's Chronology
`````````````````````````````````````````````````
''Sam Houston's Life 1793 March 2--Sam Houston is born to Major Sam
Houston and Elizabeth Paxton Houston. He is the fifth of nine children.
Born at Timber Ridge, Rockbridge County, in the Shenandoah Valley. 1806
September--Major Sam Houston dies suddenly at Dennis Callighan's Tavern
near present-day Callaghan, Virginia in Alleghany County, 40 miles west
of Timber Ridge while on militia inspections. 1807 April--Mrs. Elizabeth
Houston takes her nine children to a farm on Baker Creek in the state of
Tennessee, 10 miles south of Maryville in Blount County. 1809 Sam,
unhappy with farming and storekeeping, runs away from home to live with
the Cherokees on Hiwasee Island in the Tennessee River near present-day
Dayton, Tennessee. 1810 September--Sam returns to his family for a short
period and then returns to the Cherokees. There, he is adopted by Chief
Oo-Loo-Te-Ka and is given the Indian name, "The Raven." 1812 May--Sam
----------------------------------------------
As a young boy Sam houston grew up as A Cherokee, and dreamed of seeing
an independant Cherokee Nation. In 1832 Sam Houston took the US to court
trying to make Cherokees independant and joining Cherokee land to the
Cherokees living in East Texas,
``````````````````````````````````````````````
The plan failed but Sam did nor give up his dream of an independant
state of Texas. In 1832 Meanwhite Southerners were begining to sign an
agreement to Mexico to convert to Catholicism, and were allowed to
settle in Texas,
``````````````````````````````````````````````
This changed Hustons plans some what, The new plan was to have an
Independant Texas ran by both Cherokees and Southerners.
----------------------------------------------
There was a devision between the Cherokees, Some wanted independance
while others wanted to remain loyal to Mexico, Catholics wanted to
remain loyal
American Cherokees liked the idea of independance.
