Hello, I'm doing some research on "life after homeschooling" mostly
the transitional effects these young adults encounter in becoming
independent members of society after a lifetime of homeschooling.
While researching I've found articles that deal with educating and
handling children with disabilities (such as ADD, etc.), but the
question I have is "how do parents recognize learning disabilities in
their child?" In all scenarios I've encountered the public schools are
the ones diagnosing the child's disability and thus the parent
considers an alternative education. But what if the child is
homeschooled from birth, and is never brought through an institution?
How does a parent successfully diagnose a learning disability while
avoiding misdiagnosing something simple such as "burnout" or "lack of
focus"? Unless the parent knows what to look for and is actively aware
to keep on eye out, I think it would be very difficult.
I'm hoping to find some discussion on the matter.
Thank you.
