Hello
I've been working with a small group that is fundraising for a private
school on the west coast (US) that grants professionally accredited
degrees (Bachelors' and Masters'). The school has ~300 students and
tuition is ~15K.
It recently came to my attention that the 12 members of the school's
Board of Directors *pay* a five-figure amount to serve on the Board.
This seems backwards to me, for obvious reasons, but I'm actually not
that familiar with compensation for members of Boards of Directors for
non-profits. This may or may not be common for private schools, arts
organizations, etc., I don't know.
Q.) Under what cir***stances is it common, or reasonable, for
governing Board members to pay money in order to serve on the Board?
TIA for any responsible replies.
