John Dewey and his ilk stated that the schools were to
develop workers for "rust belt" jobs.  These jobs are quite
properly in GREAT decline, with more automation, and people
with that mentality are no longer needed.

It was found in WWII that enthusiastic college students did
not last long at such drudgery.  An active mind cannot stop
thinking, and that interferes with such activities.
