In 1968, the first African American served in the US House of
Representatives. Guess what party he was in? Republican.
In 1870, the first African American served in the US Senate. Guess
what party he was in? Republican.
Many Republican African Americans followed each of these in this era.
However, those were both reconstruction candidates...right?
In 1929, an African American, in the modern era, was elected to the US
House of Representatives. The party? Republican.
In 1967, an African American, in the modern era, was elected to the US
Senate. The party? Republican.
The first African American Secretary of State...Republican.
Ok..what about women...
In 1917, a woman became the first woman to serve in the US Congress.
The party? Republican.
In 1964 a Republican woman ran for party nomination for President,
beating the first woman to attempt this in the Democrat party by 8
years.
Well, what about Hispanics. In 1877 a Hispanic was elected to the US
House of Representatives, and in 1928, a Hispanic was elected to the
US Senate. BOTH were Republican.
Also, the first Asian Senator was Republican.
So, it looks like the GOP is the party of firsts for minorities and
women, with a few exceptions.
The Democrats can claim the first Asian member in the US House of
Representatives. And, they had the first woman Secretary of State.
And, they have Obama, now, running for President. Whew...it took some
work to find sup****t for minorities or women among the firsts.
