Discipline is focus in her murder trial

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1083734.html

Mandy Locke, Staff Writer
SMITHFIELD - A jury will be asked to decide whether Lynn Paddock was a
deeply religious but overwhelmed mother or a deceptive woman who
tormented her brood of adopted children.

The two images of Paddock emerged Friday afternoon during opening
statements in her first-degree murder trial.

Paddock is charged in the death of her 4-year-old adopted son, Sean. The
boy suffocated after being bound in blankets in his family's farmhouse
outside Smithfield in 2006.

Johnston County Assistant District Attorney Paul Jackson said jurors
will weigh a case of child abuse of immense pro****tion. Swirling around
it, he said, were lies that tricked the social workers who entrusted
Paddock with foster children.

"This case is about what lies beneath the deception," Jackson told a
Superior Court jury. "It took the death of a 4-year-old child to expose
the truth, to pierce the veil of deception she coated her family with."

The oldest of Paddock's children are expected to tell jurors next week
about the unorthodox discipline they met in the home. In motions heard
in advance of the jury being seated, the children told a judge that
Paddock beat them with plastic plumbing supply line, duct-taped shut
their mouths and forced them to exercise on a miniature trampoline for
hours on end.

During opening arguments, Paddock's attorney, Jack O'Hale, tried to
****ft some responsibility to Paddock's former husband, Johnny.

O'Hale said Johnny Paddock helped his wife settle on a method to
discipline their children. They turned to the advice of Michael Pearl, a
Tennessee evangelist who writes books and disseminates newsletters about
disciplining submissive, God-fearing children.

"They embraced his philosophy," O'Hale said. "Mr. Pearl teaches that
when you discipline a child, you don't use your hand because that's an
implement of God."

Pearl could be called to testify in Paddock's case next week.

Jackson denounced Johnny Paddock during his opening statement but asked
jurors to stay focused on Lynn Paddock's treatment of the children.

"The evidence will show that Johnny Paddock failed miserably to protect
these children," Jackson said. "There's no doubt about that. He had to
have known about some of what was going on."

Johnny Paddock has not been charged in Sean's death or in the abuse of
their other children.

Jackson argued that Lynn Paddock's abuse worsened over time, as she and
her husband adopted more and more foster children. The Paddocks adopted
Sean and his older brother, David, and sister, Hannah, in 2005.

"In 2005, that's when things go from dangerous to deadly," Jackson said.
"The control becomes obsessive. The anger is constant."

O'Hale argued that Paddock was a simple woman with simple goals in life.
A foster care child herself, she craved a stable family.

"She was a woman who wanted nothing more than to be a good wife, nothing
more than to be a good mother and did the very best she could in
accordance with her beliefs and that of her husband's to take care of
her seven children," O'Hale said.

Jurors will begin hearing evidence in the case Tuesday morning.

An Inconvenient Truth about Child Protective Services, Foster care, and
the Child Protection "INDUSTRY"

Child Protective Services Does not protect children...
It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even
killed at the hands of CPS.

every parent should read the free handbook from
connecticut dcf watch...

http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com

Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US
These numbers come from The National Center on
Child Abuse and Neglect in Wa****ngton. (NCCAN)
Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS

Perpetrators of Maltreatment

Physical Abuse CPS/Foster care 160, biological Parents 59
***ual Abuse CPS/Foster care 112, biological Parents 13
Neglect CPS/Foster care 410, biological Parents 241
Medical Neglect CPS/Foster care 14 biological Parents 12
Fatalities CPS/Foster care 6.4, biological Parents 1.5

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and ***ual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.

THIS IS AMERICA'S HIDDEN HOLOCAUST

Currently Child Protective Services violates more constitutionally
guaranteed liberties & civil rights on a daily basis then all other
agencies combined, Including the National Security agency/Central
intelligence agency wiretaping programs…

A recent study has found that 12-18 months after leaving foster care:

30% of the nation’s homeless are former foster children.
27% of the males and 10% of the females had been incarcerated
33% were receiving public assistance
37% had not finished high school
2% receive a college degree
50% were unemployed

Children in foster care are three to six times more likely than children
not in care to have emotional, behavioral and developmental problems,
including conduct disorders, depression, difficulties in school and
impaired social relation****ps. Some experts estimate that about 30% of
the children in care have marked or severe emotional problems. Various
studies have indicated that children and young people in foster care
tend to have limited education and job skills, perform poorly in school
compared to children who are not in foster care, lag behind in their
education by at least one year, and have lower educational attainment
than the general population.

80 percent of prison inmates have been through the foster care system.

The highest ranking federal official in charge of foster care, Wade Horn
of the Department of Health and Human Services, is a former child
psychologist who says the foster care system is a giant mess and should
just be blown up.

Four rigorous studies have found that at least 30 percent of America’s
foster children could be home right now if their parents had decent
housing.

This study found thousands of children already in foster care who would
have done better had child protection agencies not taken them away in
the first place.
