"No evidence" given that no one had reliable measurements of solar
output before the 20th century, so we wouldn't have a baseline of
solar output, now, would we?

How can ice core samples establish that ice melted? They only
establish that the sampled ice --didn't-- melt.  The ice core samples
relate to trapped CO2, not to melting.
