At least as often, etiquette follows no kind of logic except the one of
<soapbox>making it difficult or awkward to learn and comply with,
because otherwise it won't serve its primary purpose of marking out the
elite from the would-be elite</soapbox>. It often comes prepackaged with
elaborate rationalisations though.
