Now here's an excellent site with lots of info about Roman dance (as
well as Greek). It includes girls in bikinis (that's a surprise!) and
a dancing elephant (is that a surprise?). However, it seems that the
Roman stole their dances from other nations (that's no surprise - what
didn't they steal?). Today I tried dancing to dactylic hexameters
while reciting a passage from De Rerum Natura. It didn't turn out very
well. It's a bit easier dancing in Greek, in my experience. So my
conclusion is that Virgil and Co. did not dance while composing/
reciting, but Homer and Co. might well have danced while composing/
reciting (though Homer probably tripped over the carpet because he was
blind). Anyhow, here is that excellent site:
