This time the victim is Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
Apparently he wanted a stirring motto on his torso in time for
tonight's UEFA Cup clash with S****ting Lisbon. He selected "What does
not break me makes me stronger". For some reason he thought this would
be better in Latin. Sadly it seems he turned to our old friend the
free online translator of "angelus incubo mihi" fame.
The online translator produces the disastrous "Quis does non effrego
mihi planto mihi validus" but neither Mr. McGregor nor his tattooist
thought it might be worth checking with someone who actually knew some
Latin. There's a link to an image of the result here <http://
img171.imageshack.us/img171/3001/2lxyycioa4.jpg>. It's a scan from a
Scottish tabloid and is not very sharp but the overall effect can be
seen.
When it appears that things can't possibly get any worse they usually
do. Either Mr. McGregor or his tattoo artist dropped the "n" from
"planto" turning it into "plato". Unlikely though it seems Mr.
McGregor has therefore permanently linked himself to the names of two
philosphers, Nietzsche and Plato.
Glasgow Rangers fans are more annoyed over the timing of the tattoo.
Their fear is that it might scab over before tonight's im****tant game
and impede Mr. McGregor as he attempts to perform his customary high
catches and full length diving saves.
