Four more - one from a retail store and three from the political arena:
a) 'Turn your coins into cash'
COMMENT: Eh?
b) 'Weapons of Mass Destruction not found'
COMMENT: this assumes (hidden assumption) that they existed in
the first place; should read: 'Presupposed Weapons of Mass Destruction
not found'
c) 'Intelligence Failures will be investigated'
COMMENT: again, this assumes that 'Intelligence failures' took
place; should read: 'Alleged Intelligence Failures will be investigated'
(or similar).
Allegations and investigations do not occur by magic or
independently of human intervention and, for pure General
Semantics form, the 'allegor' and 'investigator' should of course
remain undeleted yielding:
'Panel appointed by politicians will investigate Intelligence
Failures alleged by same politicians'.
Attaching doers to doings is so revealing, eh?
d) 'Absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence'
COMMENT:
1) Evidence of obfuscation means obfuscation of evidence.
2) sence of dence rhymes with dence of sence (underlying
mantramic/rhyme form of the cliche)
3) Alliteration of sensation signifies sensation of alliteration
4) Unicorns
