Deer Math Big Branes

by Dan S. <danUNDERscoreGOEShereSLAUGHTER@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Dec 7, 2007 at 10:45 PM

Why is this so freakin' difficult for us left-braners?

Mike Anderson, John Rogers, and Tom Enright walk into the Pasadena
Westin to get a room for the upcoming Rose Bowel. They ask the desk
clerk how much rooms are. He said, since no one cares about the Rose
Bowel this year, you're in luck. Rooms are $30 and you can share a
room (mia clutches his man-purse a little tighter upon hearing this,
but remains silent). Mia, Rogers and Enright huddle and devise a plan,
they will give the clerk $10 each.

The clerk, upon receiving the $30 from the trio, bids them good night,
and they are off to the room.

Later the Bell hop arrives and tells them, the hotel is running a Rose
Bowel special, and indeed the rooms were still overpriced. He hands
them $5. They each take a dollar and give the bell hop $2 for a tip.

They decide to tally up the bill. Each one of them had originally paid
$10 (towards the initial $30), then each got back $1 which meant that
they each paid $9. Then they gave the bellhop a $2 tip. HOWEVER, 3 • $9
+ $2 = $29

Though stellar RSFC performers, they couldn't figure out what happened
to the other dollar. After all, the three paid out $30 but could only
account for $29.

Can you determine what happened?
