Le français a un vocabulaire pauvre (André Martinet (Sorbonne)) (il doit
très souvent puiser dans
le réservoir sémantique grec et latin pour former ses mots; de plus, le
système de dérivation est inefficace). L'anglais a, par contre, un
vocabulaire bien plus riche, EN PLUS DES nombreux emprunts à ces mêmes
langues.
