Re: Spanish Vs English

It's not like that at all. Current thought is that "Latin" is an
artificial
literary language, created so that city-dwellers could show the world how
smart they were, and obsolete as soon as it was created. Your Spanish is
a
descendant of Vulgar Latin, Oscan, Umbrian and various substrate languages
including Basque, Celtic, Lusitanian, Punic, etc., etc. Nineteenth
century
belief that highly declined ancient languages like Classical Greek, Latin
and Sanskrit represent a higher stage of development than modern
"degenerate" languages like Spanish, Hindi, and German is exactly that,
outmoded nineteenth century belief.

Saludos,

Earle
