Nonsense.  The only "going out of their way" they do is to stay within
the Spanish-speaking community where English is not absolutely
necessary.  The Hispanics who can speak some English, but choose to
use Spanish or pretend that they do not speak English, do so because
they are more comfortable in Spanish.  They don't use Spanish as some
sort of gesture of defiance.
