during medieval times european scholars went to Muslim Spain to study 
arabic and various other subjects.

for later, the article adds for andalusian arabic the dictionary, grammar 
and phrase book (for church purposes) of Pedro de Alcala, Vocabulista 
aravigo en letra castellana (1505).

after that, christian arabs, particularly Maronites, were a source of 
contact of Europe with arabic, arab culture and information about islam.
