I lived in Cairo for a little over a year and it seemed to me that [ayiz]
was used absolutely interchangeably with [3awiz].
I could detect no patterns which would have had to do with local dialect,
or
class, or educational level, or age, or ***, and there seemed to be
absolutely no difference depending on context or shade of meaning.
Is there, in fact, a pattern which I have not detected, or is just a
matter
of caprice and individual spontaneous choice?
