It seems that I completely misunderstood the tenor of your previous 
message...:-(

Having lived away from England for many years, I am under no illusions 
as to some of the less-appealing tendencies in certain "ex-pat" 
communities, or perhaps "ghettoes" might be a more appropriate 
description, and I have always tended to avoid them like the plague.

During the six months that I have been in France, I doubt that I have 
had more than two or three conversations with English people (about the 
same strike rate as anywhere else I have lived!)
