I'm a beginner & having trouble translating the following simple sentence -
can anyone help ?
For more than a century, my mother's family have owned a house in London.
I've come up with the following
Depuis plus d'un siècle, la famille de ma mère a possédé une maison
à
Londres.
For more than a century, the family of my mother owned a house in
London. (implies they don't own it any more)
Passe compose
Depuis plus d'un siècle, la famille de ma mère possédait une maison
à
Londres.
For more than a century, the family of my mother had a house in
London.
(implies they don't own it any more)
Imperfect
Depuis plus d'un siècle, la famille de ma mère possède une maison à
Londres.
For more than a century, the family of my mother owns a house in
London.
(Poor English, but does imply continuous owner****p)
Present
Pour plus de 100 années dernières ma famille a possédé une maison à
Londres.
For the last 100 years my family has owned a house in London.
(That works, but uses pour am I allowed to do that ?)
Passe compose
I'm validating my attempts via Google translate which is probably a bit
flaky, so I need some help from a real person !
Any help appreciated.
