"while throwing out far"
The second one is messy, and would be easier to understand in context.
Pâtir means to "suffer because of" so it could mean:
Candidates who will be added to the programme include those who have 
suffered because of large scools or simply at the bac and those no longer 
interested in research.

But don't hold me to that!
