I've always found gifts to be a personal thing. Are they French or
American (or another culture of course?)
Have your friends spoken of something specific that they miss/enjoyed
when they were in the States? I've found that something useful, small
and pretty always goes well. We have a very nice chinaware
manufacturer near our home, so we bring a nice, useful, but not
necessarily matching what they have, piece for those we stay with. If
the like a certain color or type of flower, that helps...
I know it doesn't help much, but thought I'd chime in.
