Well, it could be translated as "berry's fort" (close enough in 
pronunciation to "Beresfort", an alternate spelling of "beresford) and 
since some names in Ireland are (vague) English translations of Irish 
names it's quite legitimate to do so the other way round - e.g. 
Breathnach and Walsh, Mac Gabhann and Smith or Ó Cléirigh and Clarke.
