Cheguei is the preterit indicative and chegue is a conjugation
of the verb as present subjunctive, it's not a typo. I had to look
this up because I couldn't remember the official terms for the
conjugations even though I know (usually) how/when to use each.
****tuguese grammar is not easy and you'll need a lot of practice
and persistence before it starts to seem at all natural to use without
constantly thinking about it.
