I am looking for instructional material that I can use or give to
somebody that wants to learn how to read and write in english. Here are
a few details of my situation.
I work in Libya. The houseboy for the building I stay in is from
Guinea. He has never been to school so he has almost no literacy skills
at all. He doesn't even know how to hold a pencil properly.
Surprisingly, although he is illiterate he can speak at least four
languages (probably more) fluently!
He has asked me if I can help him to learn how to read and write. I can
help him a little, but I don't have a lot of time when I am here.
Additionally, I am not a teacher so I don't have a lot of confidence in
my ability to instruct him properly. So I am trying to find something
on the internet that will give basic, non-formal, instruction on how to
teach someone to read and write and perhaps exercises that I can give
to him so that he can practice on his own without needing me to be
there.
Can anyone in this newsgroup suggest some material that I can use to
teach somebody how to read and write english? Specifically I am looking
for suggestions on material that I can download from the internet or a
brief guide that I can purchase. I also need something that will be
very, very concise, not at textbook.
I am also looking for web sites that might help me find this kind of
information.
Any suggestions are welcome.
