On looking, Google's calculator seems to give answers in metric. All the 
defined entities are in those units. The calculations are done in metric 
units. The answer is displayed in metric, unless you explicitly request 
an alternative unit. I.e. "81,000 furlongs per fortnight in miles per
hour"

The calculator is quite sensible... but asking for "1 cm in 
centimetres=" just about fools it into saying "1 centimeter = 1 
centimeters". It usually seems to avoid showing such trivial answers.
