Greatest cylinder with fixed diagonal-squared (2r)^2+h^2.
puzzle.
V2. pi r^3.
i recently encountered a very practical maths problem.
what size pot should i buy to cook corn on the cob?
the corn was 18cm long x 5cm diameter.
i require the [smallest pot] that will contain an [ear] of corn.
the possibilities are..
1/ horizontal corn
2/ inclined, touching sides.
3/ vertical corn.
so, the problem can be expressed as inscribe a cylinder in a cylinder.
2/ [if not smallest] pot, then the largest pot that the corn will
squeeze into.

i wonder if any mathematician or Archimedes or student has attempted
my problem.
to practise or experiment or visualise.. rocker a CUP against the
inside of a cooking pot.
you may find 'CUP' (cylinder) spells and simulates and illustrates an
inclined cylinder !!!
CUSP, CIRCLE OF OSCULATION. !!
E.G. C= handle
U = bowl, vessel, pot.
my cup runneth over.
