Except that x^x is _not_ a polynomial.

Indeed, for polynomials it actually is more convenient to define x^0 =3D
1 at x =3D 0, so that
we may use sigma notation. So the polynomial equation in the OP's post
becomes:

sigma_(j=3D0)^n (a_j*x^j) =3D 0.
