so what's the psychological merit of all this? well, to the paranoïd
design + coïncidence = 1 (one, if you like)
at least mathematically. of course this couldn't have any theological
implications, that is if you like to identify design with deïty. if you
do,
mathematical proof of deïty is a given, since nowhere in the universe
(that
is nowhere, except in logic, which is entirely based on axiom) could any
event occur with a chance, probability, contingency of it happening
coïncidentally of 1.0\ (one). so there will always be deïty. however, due
to
the yin-yang character of the matter, there could never be absolute proof
of
either the existence or the non-existence of such deïty, since nothing in
the actual universe could ever happen with a coïncidental probability of
0.0\ either. so there is proof, to the extent of a given, but no absolute
proof, even if you would like it.
to be precise, the chance of the existence of deïty equals the complement
of
the least likely event that ever happened. and I think my example is a
fine
candidate. to me at least it suffices perfectly, the only question
remaining
is whether this deïty would be ours. and I rather like to concur with
captain janeway on this.
