Not that I am anyone of supreme merit when it comes to math, but when I was
taking Calculus, I used to hand-copy the whole chapter. Something about
writing it all out myself helped me understand it better. I became better
versed in integrals. I was the only one in the class to derive the
surface
area of a sphere. Later I took Physics. Considering a bird is 6" long,
it
will get squashed between two trains according to the Taylor remainder
(the
inverse factorial). Those were my glory days.
Now all I do is putter around with simpler problems. I'd rather solve a
simple problem and get it right, than pursue elaborate constructions and
be
wrong every time. I have a little of each at my web site, but that's not
im****tant.
Math is a positive diversion for a chaotic life, but not really. More
often
than not, it drives me crazy. It can also do harm. My next celebrated
brainchild only becomes the missile guidance system for terrorists. What
good does that do? It does no good. I'd be better off to be like Newton
and sit on it for a decade before leaking it out. Sure, all the glory and
fame.... and all the death it leads to. Wasn't Albert Einstein a little
of
that vain variety?
To keep it simple, stick to art.
