Why do people embarrass themselves by saying things like this? Where

You can be sure that the "middle class" voted in large numbers for the
Bush programme, and the neo-con foreign policy agenda-***-
religious-cult.  If, as a consequence of this, the people destroy
their own economic viability, perhaps their lemming-like march of
self-destruction is simply Darwinian theory in action.

Bush has always played expertly from the bully pulpit, and his
political machine will dominate as long as people care more about
whether fags can have weddings or about Janet Jackson's nipple than
they do about whether or not we ought to be fighting a war over
imaginary armaments.
