CALL FOR PAPERS / PARTICIPATION : IUI 2004 and CADUI 2004

by "Jihie Kim" <jihie_kim@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 14, 2003 at 09:22 PM

*** CALL FOR PAPERS / PARTICIPATION ***

         IUI 2004:
   8th ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces

   jointly organized with

        CADUI 2004:
5th International Conference on Computer-Aided Design of User Interfaces

    January 13-16, 2004
    Funchal, Madeira Island, ****tugal

       DEADLINE FOR WORKSHOP/TUTORIAL PROPOSALS: August 15, 2003
     DEADLINE FOR ALL OTHER TRACKS: October 1, 2003

         http://www.iuiconf.org.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

TWO GREAT CONFERENCES: ONE EVENT!

IUI is an annual conference that has served as the principal
international forum for re****ting outstanding research and
applications in intelligent user interfaces.

CADUI is a triennial conference that has been the reference point for
outstanding research and development of tools, environments and
middleware for automating the design of user interfaces.

In early 2004, these two conferences will come together to the
beautiful island of Madeira, offering a unique op****tunity for these
two communities to learn, collaborate and socialize together. This
joint event will feature parallel technical tracks presenting
full-length IUI and CADUI technical papers, with jointly organized
invited talks and panels by leaders from both communities, specialized
workshops and tutorials for in-depth study of specialized topics, and
a joint interactive poster session with live demonstrations.

SUBMISSIONS

Both conferences seek high-quality, original submissions and encourage
participation by both the academic community and industrial
researchers and developers. All submissions will be reviewed by a
distinguished international committee. Submissions can be directed to
any of the following six tracks:

   * IUI Long Papers
   * CADUI Long Papers
   * Short Papers
   * Demonstrations
   * Tutorials
   * Workshops

The submission, review and publication processes for Long Papers will
be separately administered for each conference. Authors should choose
the conference to which they submit Long Papers according to the
detailed conference descriptions below. Submissions in all the other
tracks will be jointly administered.

All paper submissions and reviews will be via www.conferencereview.com.

TOPICS

Topics of interest for both conferences include, but are not limited
to, the following. These topics will also be used as the keywords for
all paper submissions:

   * user-interface design and specification methods and languages
   * model-based interface design
   * knowledge-based interface design
   * evaluation of user interfaces and tools
   * tangible interfaces
   * ubiquitous interfaces and smart environments
   * multimedia interfaces
   * affective interfaces
   * interface agents
   * web-based interfaces
   * example- and demonstration-based interfaces
   * human-computer collaboration and intelligent assistants
   * computer-sup****ted cooperative work
   * collaborative filtering and recommender systems
   * interactive visualization
   * personalization and customization of interfaces
   * natural language and speech processing
   * planning and plan recognition
   * task modeling
   * computer graphics and animation

VENUE

Funchal is the capital of the Isle of Madeira, ****tugal. Captain Cook,
visiting Madeira in 1768, remarked that the island "was the recipient
of nature's most liberal gifts" a description which might equally be
applied to it today. A green, subtropical paradise of volcanic origin,
its soils are formed from lava and ash, and blessed with an equable
daytime temperature that varies only a few degrees year round, Madeira
is a year round delight. Funchal is the only town of any size on the
island. Its historic core overlooks a deep natural harbor and boasts
fine government buildings and stately 18th-century houses with shady
courtyards and decorative iron balconies. A wide variety of
interesting excursions highlight these beautiful colonial houses, the
island's dramatic scenic contrasts and colorful tropical gardens.
