[Class] Principles of Software Testing (San Diego)

by Quality Vectors <schwartz51@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 7, 2007 at 07:16 PM

Boost Your Marketability with S/W Development Firms
==================================================================
Do You “Talk the Talk” of Software Development?
• Provide a formal definition of Software Engineering
• What is an SDLC? Name the phases of an SDLC.
• Provide a formal definition of Software Quality
• Provide a formal definition of Software Test Engineering
• Provide a formal definition of Software Testing
==================================================================
If you want to compete in this job market, you need to be articulate in
the concepts and vocabulary of the profession so that you have
credibility in the interview.

The Interview is the “Acid Test” of Your Credibility
• In an interview, your credibility is “on the line.”
• To establish and sustain credibility in the interview, a job candidate
needs professional answers to professional questions about software
eng’rg, software quality and software testing (like answers to the
questions listed above).
• Without professional answers to those questions, a candidate
demonstrates a lack of professional knowledge.
• To a hiring manager, inadequate knowledge = unqualified candidate =
lower pay.

Thus, the ability to articulate formal, professional definitions and
vocabulary during an interview is worth money in your pocket.
==================================================================
Times Have Changed, Either Adapt or Become “Road Kill”
• The job market is changing dramatically, the economy is in a downward
spiral, and employers focus on hiring skilled staff.
• Also, there is real competition for jobs. Interviews are more
rigorous and employers are more demanding.
• To land a job in the “universe” of software development, some formal
knowledge of software engineering/software development is
necessary---along with in-depth knowledge of software quality and
software testing.
• To be credible in an interview, a job candidate must be able to
articulate software concepts and principles accurately and correctly.
Without those skills, you risk not getting a job at the “right” salary.

Can you afford that risk?

You “could” go to an expensive school that teaches non-standard course
material, but does that make sense?
