- So many coders think that they are "software engineers" when nearly
all of their experience has been in coding. Software engineering has
been defined by IEEE, and IEEE's definition is approved by ISO.
- The Software Engineering Body of Knowledge is known as the SWEBOK. It
encomp***** 10 knowledge areas, and is a free download at www.swebok.org.
- Becoming a software engineer involves learning some of the content of
each of the 10 SWEBOK knowledge areas, and becoming proficient in a
subset of those 10 areas (not solely just one of them).
- Be careful who you listen to about career content and career
progression: authoritative professional standards versus anecdotal,
3rd-hand, "we invented it" definitions.
