University enrolment increases to continue - AUCC re****t

Canadian university enrolment will grow nationally by
between 70,000 to 150,000 full-time students over the next
decade despite challenging demographics in some regions of
the country, according to a new study by the Association of
Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC).


Graduating nurses can't find jobs, CNA warns

And, even though 8,000 nurses will graduate across Canada
this month, the CNA will say 15 per cent of them will not
find work in this country. That number is culled from

health-care policy studies, past trends and re****ts from
young nursing students across the country who say they have
been unable to secure jobs.


Regulations leave foreign doctors in licence limbo

"We have to verify what sort of training they had. That's a
difficult process for colleges and councils. In fact, many
have given up trying to do so. (Foreign doctors) come from
so many backgrounds that they can't be authenticated,"
Canadian Medical Association president Colin McMillan said.


McGuinty Government Creating Op****tunity In Art And Culture
Industries

The Ministry of Culture's Status of the Artist re****t,
released last fall, identified a need in the arts community
for business training. Today Bentley announced that the
Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is
investing more than $600,000 this year in human resources,
entrepreneurial and professional development projects in
the arts sector through the Sector Initiatives Fund.

The Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) in Vernon is now

New Brunswick employment rate hits 30-year high

Samuel LeBreton, a senior economist with Service Canada,
says older workers have continued to climb in numbers over
the past few years, with the group making up half of the
overall employment growth this year.

Nationally, online job demand rose by 30 per cent year-
over-year but dropped by 1.3 per cent from a month earlier

The demand for IT professionals in Canada is on the rise
and shows no sign of slowing down. According to statistics
compiled by CNC Global, Canada's leading provider of IT
staffing services, numbers for Canadian companies hiring IT
staff reached an all-time high during the first quarter of
2007.

Canadian immigration officials have discovered 42 wedding
albums - submitted by 42 different Indians applying for
citizen****p - in which the guests in the photos were
identical.


U.S. looks north on immigration
Canada's points system suddenly appeals to Americans as
model for overhaul

"It was amazing to me that they talked last year about a

comprehensive immigration plan and never even considered
what they're doing in Canada, which is clearly a merit-
based system," Alabama Republican Senator Jeff Sessions, a
proponent of such a plan, told CNN last week.


Canadian Government To Ban Foreign Exotic Dancers

The Federal government is proposing new legislation to ban
foreign exotic dancers in Canada. The Canadian Press is
re****ting that Immigration Minister Diane Finley is
expected to announce changes to the Immigration and Refugee
Act.


New Immigration Agreement Between Canada and Alberta
----------------------------------

The Agreement for Canada-Alberta Cooperation on Immigration
provides Alberta with greater control over immigration to
the province, facilitating the selection and retention of
newcomers to fill gaps in the labour market.


Pass****t officer admits to do***ent scam
----------------------------------

A former pass****t examination officer pleaded guilty
yesterday to running a scam that allowed non-Canadians to
receive Canadian pass****ts as a result of do***ents that he
falsified.


Lack of Work Main Difficulty Facing Immigrants in Canada
----------------------------------

Statscan found that even after four years in Canada,
immigrants are unable to find work in their specific field
of expertise. Even so, the survey found that a full 85 per
cent were happy with their decision to emigrate.


Business links strong for Chinese immigrants to Canada
----------------------------------

For every 1,000 newcomers from China in recent years,
Canada's trade with that country has increased by roughly
$700-million, a University of Toronto study says.


Immigration status of students to be kept private, Toronto

Schools and staff will no longer be required to reveal to
immigration officials whether a student has legal status in
Canada to immigration officials.
