Actually, this conference is also for practicing homeschoolers. Now that
I'm back in civilization, I went online and got more info:
Home School Conference at SCC - March 29th
Shawnee Community College is always looking for new ways to serve district
residents. Home schooling is an educational option many area parents
choose
for their families. One difficulty faced by home schooling parents and
students is the lack of networking options. In response to that need,
Shawnee is hosting a free Home School Day on Saturday, March 29 from 9:15
a.m. to 4 p.m., providing an op****tunity for area home schoolers to get to
know other home school families and exchange contact information. Also,
participants will be able to buy and sell used curriculum materials.
The sessions during the conference are designed to encourage, enhance, and
promote the networking of home school families, as well as assist with the
transition of high school students into college. Sessions titles include
Finding and Using Web Resources, Getting Started, Home School to College,
Legal Issues, and Home Schooling in High School. Children are welcome to
attend the event. The college will partner with the University of Illinois
Extension Service to provide activities throughout the day for children
while parents attend sessions. CPR training is available for children ages
12-18, as an all-day session but is limited to 15 participants.
Lunch is provided for all participants and children, free of charge. For
more information, contact Monica Brahler at 618.634.3322.
