CareerBuilder.ca and Lycos Canada Enter Strategic
Partner****p
----------------------------------
CareerBuilder.ca, a leading online job site in Canada, has
entered a strategic partner****p with Lycos Canada to power
its new online job search center. Under the two-year
agreement, CareerBuilder.ca will provide Lycos Canada users
instant access to job postings in virtually every industry,
field and job type as well as provide articles that will
explore the topics of job search strategy, career
management, hiring trends and workplace issues.
Small program has big impact

The program is one of several offered in the province and
funded by the Ontario Women's Directorate to improve skills
and employment op****tunities for low-income women. It is
also offered through MicroSkills Development Centre, a non-
profit multicultural community organization that has sites
in Scarborough and Etobicoke (microskills.ca).

The McGuinty government is helping people on disability
sup****t pursue job op****tunities and keep more of what they
earn by improving the Ontario Disability Sup****t Program

A plan Ottawa launched yesterday to fast-track the entry of
tem****ary foreign workers - but only to booming Alberta and
British Columbia - has left critics wondering why Ontario's
own labour crunch is being ignored.
Part-time positions fuel jobs growth

Part-time jobs, which tend to be lower paying and more
tem****ary, accounted for all of last month's gains.
Employers added 40,500 part-time jobs last month while
full-time jobs fell by 18,100, reversing a month-earlier
gain.
Ottawa to ease restrictions on hiring foreign workers
----------------------------------
The changes include setting up regional lists of
occupations where jobs are going unfilled because of a
shortage of qualified workers. The recruitment wait time
for employers would be cut for all "occupations under
pressure."
Ontario Government Expands Programs for Newcomers in York
Region, GTA

The McGuinty government is investing $1.75 million to
expand programming to help employers tap into the wealth of
talent and skills of newcomers, Ontario Minister of
Citizen****p and Immigration Mike Colle announced today.

Libya tries to thwart licences for doctors who train in
Canada

An international tiff may be brewing as Ottawa's Libyan
embassy asks Canada's colleges of physicians and surgeons
not to license Libyan doctors whose training in Canada has
been sponsored by their government.

Schools help foreign trained professionals

For those trained in health care the best place for them to
start is a professional college. The Ontario College of
Pharmacists, for example, is one of the leaders in helping
pharmacists trained abroad qualify to practice here.
Another leader is the Ontario College of Nurses.

Proposals from as many as 40 international universities
have been submitted to the government of Maharashtra with
most of these universities seeking land in the Mumbai-Pune-
Na****k belt to establish a campus. The names include
Stanford University, Georgia Tech University, British
Columbia University, McGill University, Simon Fraser
University, Cubec University and Montreal University.
Ontario tops university boom

Statistics Canada says there were 1.01 million university
registrations, the seventh straight year in which enrolment
hit a record high, though the 2.1 per cent growth from the
previous academic year was the lowest margin this decade.
McGill ranked at the top of the class by Maclean's

McGill University is Canada's top-ranked medical-doctoral
university, scoring the highest marks in the country for a
second consecutive year in the Maclean's magazine 16th
annual University Rankings issue. Last year, McGill tied
for the No.1 spot with the University of Toronto, but
occupies the top position alone this year ahead of Queen's
University in second and U of T in third.

Former Terrorist Denied Entry Into Canada
----------------------------------
Former terrorist Walid Shoebat has been refused entry into
Canada by Immigration authorities, today. Shoebat is
scheduled to speak at the Simon Weisenthal Center at 7:30
p.m. in Ottawa tonight and in Montreal tomorrow. He is
often invited to speak about his life as a terrorist and
about his transformation from extremist to peacemaker and
activist against terrorism.
Asian Organized Crime Thriving in Canada

When organized crime is mentioned, what comes to mind for
most people is the Italian Mafia. But one of the most
powerful and dangerous criminal groups is the Triads, a
centuries-old Chinese crime gang that has a strong and
ubiquitous presence throughout the world, including Canada.

A passage to Canada: Indians outnumber the Chinese

The Indian dias****a could outpace the Chinese immigration
into Canada soon. Figures available with the embassies show
till recently, the maximum migration to the North American
country was from China.
Ottawa eases red tape for foreign workers

"There are going to be certain occupations under tremendous
pressure where employers are having trouble finding
workers," Solberg told re****ters after his announcement.
"We will reduce the requirements that they have to go
through to bring in those categories into the country. It
will save them several weeks."
Time to speed up immigration changes

Around the world, some 800,000 people are waiting to hear
that they are welcome in Canada. But last week, in his
department's annual re****t, Immigration Minister Monte
Solberg had nothing to say to them. Governments come and go
in this country, but immigration problems - in both theory
and practice - endure.

Lerner was appointed to a three-year term in Montreal, and
Kenneth Duncan MacLean was appointed to a three-year term
in Toronto. These appointments were made in accordance with
the IRB merit-based appointment process.
