No evidence of sufficient volcanism to explain the symptoms.  No
evidence of an increase in solar heating to explain the receding ice
caps.

I believe that the core samples of the ice sheets go quite far back.
There is the historically unsuccessful search for the Northwest
passage to show that the impending opening of a Northwest passage is
unprecedented in several hundred years.

But apparently wasn't global, since the Southern Hemisphere was out of
sync by a thousand years.  They also have mechanisms to explain it
which are not operative now.
