What is it going to take for school officials to open their eyes to the
bullying taking place right in front of them? Is it easier to remove the
victims of bullies than to remove the bullies themselves? Even when the
school officials are aware of who these bullies are it seems they would
rather turn a blind eye to what is happening to so many of our children. I
don't think it is fair for these school officials to place blame on those
being verbally and physically abused by other students, yet that is
exactly what is taking place. When a student re****ts to a teacher that
they are being harassed and they are dismissed as being tattles what do
they think that does to a child? There are too many examples(look in any
newspaper) of what happens to a child that is battered by their peers on a
daily basis. Everyone has a breaking point and it should never get that
far, especially when the situations are re****ted to the proper officials.
What is it that we as parents need to do or can do? It seems the countless
complaints don't make a difference to what is happening. When a child
receives a death threat shouldn't that be taken seriously? When a child is
repeatedly pegged in the back of the head by what ever the other students
decide to throw shouldn't action be taken against that student? Yet, when
the victim speaks out of frustration to a teacher about what has happened
and how they feel(not neccisarily the appropriate words, and who could
blame them, they're frustrated)the teacher immediately turns them into the
office and labels them as a danger or a threat to the school, students and
staff. Does anyone have any words of wisdom from experience or first hand
knowledge of what steps need to be taken. The school itself has been
notified of the problem and has done nothing to stop this behavior. Is the
next step the school board? And then what if that doesn't help? Much
appreciation for any advice given that can help!
