Stafford (and Perkins) loans continue to be deferred if you go on to
grad school.
But, it is your responsibility to notify your undergrad lenders of this
(the sooner the better), or they will assume you are out of school and
expect payment to begin after the grace period.
If you finish undergrad studies in May and do not begin grad school
until January or later, you will have to make payments from the end of
the grace period until you resume, and again it is up to you to notify
the lenders. In this case you will have already used up your one-time
grace period and payments on those older loans will be due as soon as
you leave grad school.
