SUMMER TEACHING OP****TUNITIES
Do you have a desire to try out a creative and challenging curriculum
with a group of motivated, highly able students? The Summer Enrichment
Program (SEP) announces the 25thyear of its residential summer program
for gifted students. Our program serves students currently enrolled in
grades 4-10 and offers a curriculum that emphasizes the development of
research skills, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills
through varied content areas and innovative teaching approaches. The
curriculum should be interactive, resourceful, and allow for student
research and investigations that go beyond topics commonly studied in
regular school curriculums. SEP offers a non-graded atmosphere with an
emphasis on small group work, discussions and debates, simulations and
critical inquiry.
Seminar Teacher
For either grade 4-5 or 6-7 the seminar curriculum is less academic
than the morning class, but should be a passion of the teacher and high
interest for the students. Seminars are comprised of nine 1 1/2-hour
sessions that run in the afternoon from 3-5:30pm. Students will select
one of fourteen different topics to be offered. Previous topics have
included printmaking, pinhole photography, ecology, web site creating,
journalism, media production, reader’s theater, mathematics, astronomy,
philosophy and much more! Students and teachers prepare final products
to share on the last session in a seminar fair.
