References in scientific publications are rarely put in a form
that can be legal GEDCOM.

Exactly.  And "1930 Census, Missouri, Monroe County,
Bon Femme Twp., page 101A" is _more_ than adequate for that.

What is demanded by the NGS Quarterly is overkill.  I was just
wondering whether a "happy medium" had ever been discussed to
a consensus anywhere.  Obviously no such thing is binding on
anyone, but I was wondering.
