From an analysis of the DBF format I made years ago (in the 1980s),
I would say that the major difference between those versions is the
1st byte of the database. I found a 2 for dBase II, a 3 for dBase III
and something very different for either Foxbase or Clipper. I presume
a recent software will recognize the various fields if you want to
im****t such a database.
As for the index files, they are all different with different formats
and extensions. I would suppose they are not necessary if you only
want to im****t/recycle data.
