Of course a GED file is simply a structured text file. Any word
processor or text editor can edit such a file. This means if you are
running Windows you already have two included..... Notepad and
Wordpad. But why edit GEDCOM files directly? It's far easier to just
load it into a genealogy program and make your genealogical
corrections and additions there, then save it back as a GEDCOM. There
are several free Genealogy programs available too.
