Re: Is there a genealogy Wiki anywhere?

The FamilySearch Wiki is growing, they need your help.  From today's
User Group Meeting (which I attended live and those outside the area
can attend via Adobe Connect for now:

            5. Have state, country, county coordinators. Could we
advertize this need on a ****tal page? Coordinators should have
genealogical experience? Have a way to give feedback on coordinators/
moderators so those that are not effective can be evaluated and
changed as needed.
   5. Volunteers for moderators

    Jimmy: Idaho, Indians of North America
    Lisa: Tennessee
    Darris: Wales
    David: New York, Oregon, Luxembourg, Germany

This would work like USGenweb/WorldGenweb if it works out, have
coordinators for counties and states in the US and countries

There need to be alot more than the 1660 or so people that are on as
of this writing.

Also note the forums link on the left of any wiki page as well.  You
can ask research questions there.  The wiki will be for posting
information about records, repositories, research strategies, etc.
Almost all the other wikis I've seen have to do with surnames and the
like, this is the only one focused on actual research resources and
strategies.

You do not have to be LDS to participate, although they are providing
the resources and the technical backing for the project.  Jump in,
edit your areas of knowledge.  They anticipate it being used by
millions on a regular basis.  The site uses the latest version of the
Wikimedia software, so it is up to date technically as well.

A note on registration which is needed for editing on the wiki and
posting on the forums other than those for feedback on the wiki:
Sorry no single signin yet for both projects, but they are working on
that technical issue.  Best to use the same username on both if you do
so that when they do the transition will be smoother for you.
