I'm out of the hobby now but FTM did the exact same thing to me. I
installed the new version (2?) and it wouldn't recognize the files
from ver.1. You could not even ged-com your way out of it ( even
though you would loose all your notes, comments, etc.) That's why no
more no more FTM for me - ever.
I got the original back by doing a system restore to before I got my
hands on ver.2.
That's when I said 'screw it'. If you cannot even update with the same
product it all seemed like a waste of time.
But now everything is computerized so it takes a lot less effort that
sitting in those hard chairs at the LSD library :)
